The Cat’s Pajamas
This week is our first Cat’s Pajamas adoption event! The second Friday of each month, the shelter will be open until 8pm for adoptions, to accomodate people’s busy schedules! Milk and cookies will be served! Adopters wearing pajamas will receive $10 off their adoption fee!
Trying Something New at Petsmart!
The Cattery was invited by Petsmart management to house some of our kitties at Petsmart during the week. A group of kitties will be there for a week - Cattery staff and volunteers will clean up after them and feed twice a day, while Petsmart staff wll check on them several times a day as well. After their week is over, the remaining kitties go back to the shelter and another group goes to Petsmart. This is done at other Petsmart stores across the country, we were just made aware of it and how it would work recently.
This will give these kitties exposure during the week, when the shelter is closed. If someone wishes to adopt one of our cats, Petsmart faxes the application to us at the shelter and if approved, we make arrangements for the kitty to go home.
We hope this will increase the number of adoptions and decrease the length of time between arrival at the shelter and when the cats find a home!

New Programs @ The Cattery!
We have several new and exciting programs here at The Cattery!
Seniors for Seniors
Studies show that seniors benefit from the companionship of cats. Senior cats also benefit from the companionship of humans! The program really created itself. The adoption fee will be waived for those over 60 adopting a cat over 5!
The Cat’s Pajamas
To accommodate our adopter’s busy schedules, the shelter will now be open for extended adoption hours the second Friday of each month until 8pm. Milk and cookies will be served. Those wearing pajamas will receive $10 off their adoption fee. With these late hours, we can’t promise the kitties will be awake!
Pet Insurance for Adopters
The Cattery is proud to announce a new partnership with Shelter Care Pet Insurance to offer our adopters 30 days of free pet insurance for their new cat, which will cover unexpected illnesses and accidents. Beginning this weekend anyone who adopts from The Cattery is eligible for this new program. This, coupled with the free exam and 10 day health certificate from Oso Creek Animal Hospital that adopters currently receive, will provide real peace of mind when bringing home your newest family member!
Week 3 Virtu-Adoption Campaign Update
This is our 3rd week of our Virtu-Adoption Campaign. This week we had 1 new person sign up - making a total of 63 people that have pledged to send a monthly donation to The Cattery. We are very thankful that so many people believe in our organization and want to ensure a safe, happy and comfortable home for our kitties!
The Virtu-Adoption program is important because helps cover the overhead expenses of the shelter and ensures that all of the cats and the kittens of The Cattery have a home for as long as they need one. The cats listed in the Virtu-Adoption program are most likely going to live here the rest of their lives due to temperament, age or health issues. If all of the overhead expenses are covered, our fundraising efforts can be focused on expanding programs for the community. Please consider telling your friends about this fun program and how important it is for our shelter! Each month you get a picture of your kitty and an email from them! Some of the kitties are quite hilarious!
This month we want you to meet Sunshine. Poor Sunshine was hit by a car as a baby and had a head injury. A Good Samaritan saw the accident and took her to Oso Creek for treatment. After she had recovered physically from her injuries, she came to The Cattery. She has been with us for over two year. She has never really learned to trust people. She has bonded with a few of our staff and volunteers but on the whole, she stays hidden when people come to visit.
The Virtu-Adoption program helps guarantee a home for Sunshine, who’s unfortunate circumstances are no fault of her own!

Week 2 Virtu-Adoption Campaign Update
Week 2 of our Virtu-Adoption Campaign has been quite exciting! This week we had 5 new subscribers to the program and 11 people renewed their subscriptions. That’s 62 people supporting the cats and kittens of The Cattery in our Virtu-Adoption Program!
While we are ecstatic to have this many people signed up in just two weeks, we are still far from our goal of 300! Please forward this information to friends, colleagues or even your enemies if they love cats and want to help out a great cause!
If this is your first email about our Virtu-Adoption Campaign, this program is designed to pay for all of the overhead expenses of the shelter. Paying the overhead expenses of the shelter ensures that all the kitties in the shelter have a home until they are adopted. The kitties in the program are likely to not be adopted, due to temperament, age, or a medical condition. These kitties especially need the shelter to thrive so they are guaranteed a nice place to live if they never find their forever home.
This week we want to tell you about Dwayne. Dwayne was brought to us by a teenager that had just been kicked out of her house. She was planning to move to Chicago to be with her dad, but wasn’t leaving right away. The friend she was staying with wouldn’t let her bring her cat, so she asked us if we could hold him for a few days. This had disaster written all over it, but we said yes anyway - could you say no to that face? Needless to say, the girl never called and when we called her, she hung up on us. Maybe her story was true, maybe not, but either way, we were now responsible for Dwayne. The girl had mentioned he had gotten out, was gone for awhile and came back sick with a fever. Also, Dwayne was not neutered! We were immediately concerned that he had gotten into a fight while he was out and had contracted FIV, because along with being sickly, he was a bit skinny. He tested negative, so we went on about our business - had him neutered, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, etc and up for adoption he went. However, he kept losing weight and was having some bathroom issues. We took him to the vet and they couldn’t find anything wrong with him initially. When he continued to lose weight, they did blood tests and thought he might have thyroid issues, even though he is very young to have these problems. Finally Dwayne had an ultrasound which showed his intestines have some issues - either cancer or Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The former would require surgery to prove, the latter just needed a Steroid injection. We decided to try the steroid injection, to save Dwayne the pain of a possibly unnecessary operation. So far he has had great success! He has gone from 7 to 10 pounds in 5 months, has only had to have 1 additional steroid injection, and is happy and active. However, because of these medical issues, Dwayne is too big of a responsibility for most adopters, so he has the potential to be with us for awhile. For this reason, he is available for Virtu-Adoption!
The Virtu-Adoption Program makes it possible for us to care long term for kitties like Dwayne! If you choose to adopt Dwayne or any one of the cats on our list, you will receive an email letter and a picture each month filled with news on the antics of your cat and shelter happenings.
A Virtu-Adoption is a cute gift for the cat lover in your life or yourself!
You can sign up here or download the form off of our website and mail it back to us: http://www.thecatterycc.org
Thank you so much to those that have already participated and to everyone that supports our shelter!
