Week 1 Virtu-Adoption Campaign Update

Week one has come to a close of our Virtu-Adoption Campaign.  This week we had 10 new subscribers to the program and 2 people renewed their subscriptions.  In addition to the 34 people already in the program, we have a total of 46!  It seems like a long way from our goal of 300, so we need your help getting the word out.  Forward this information to all of your cat loving friends and let them know how important the work is that The Cattery does for our feline friends.

If this is your first time reading about our Virtu-Adoption Campaign, this program is designed to pay for all of the overhead expenses of the shelter.  Paying the overhead expenses of the shelter ensures that all the kitties in the shelter have a home until they are adopted.  The kitties in the program are likely to not be adopted, due to temperament, age, or a medical condition.  These kitties especially need the shelter to thrive so they are guaranteed a nice place to live if they never find their forever home.

This week we want to tell you about Virginia.  She was born with a bad leg that had no feeling and was an impediment to her in getting around.  Also, when animals drag their limbs around like that, they tend to have ongoing sores which can get infected and be very painful.  As Virginia grew up a little, it was determined that she is slightly paralyzed in her other leg as well and is incontinent.  Her one leg needed to be amputated, and we are currently trying to figure out some outfits that will hold a diaper on but still be comfortable and make it easy for her to get around.  She is a very active kitten and loves to jump, climb and play with the other kittens.  Incontinence is usually a very large deterrent to adoption.  We hope that our planned outfits will make her more adoptable, but if not, Virginia can live her life here in the comfort and safety of The Cattery, where she is loved by all of the staff, volunteers and regular visitors.

The Virtu-Adoption Program makes this possible!  If you choose to adopt Virgrinia or any one of the cats on our list, you will receive an email letter and a picture each month filled with news on the antics of your cat and shelter happenings.

A Virtu-Adoption is a cute gift for the cat lover in your life and with Mother’s Day coming up, it would be a great gift for Mom!!

Virtual Adoption Campaign

Times are tough these days, especially for non-profits. The cats and kittens of The Cattery need your help! While we find wonderful homes for most of our kitties, some of them due to temperament, health or age, are unlikely to be adopted. For these kitties we provide a permanent place for them to live out their lives in safety and comfort.

These cats offer you an opportunity to help with The Cattery continue our shelter and the good work that we do for our community. Perhaps you already have so many cats that you can’t adopt one more and add her to the mix. Or perhaps you love cats but your landlord doesn’t. Or perhaps your spouse loves cats but you’re allergic. How can you participate in creating a nurturing environment for every cat and kitten we take in?

You can Virtually Adopt a cat or kitten from our group we’ve designated as “maybe here forever.” And here’s the really good news: only 300 virtual adoptions @ $15 a month would completely cover the overhead* to operate The Cattery. Only 300! And covering our overhead each month would free up our fundraisers for important expenses like vet bills and special projects.

Virtual Adoption is easy. You can sign up here via PayPal or you can email us at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to get info on mailing a check each month or have us automatically charge your credit card. Although $4500 per month is a lot of money, spread out over 300 people (or more!), it’s less than $200 per year per virtual adopter (50 cents a day).

Please click here to study the attached page that describes some of our “maybe here forever” darlings? Only $15 per month from you and 299 other cat lovers can guarantee that their lives and the lives of many, many other cats and kittens will have a happy and healthy outcome.  Please sign up today and help continue to make this dream a reality.

New to this year’s campaign:  Those of you that pay the year up front will receive a free Cattery Tshirt!

If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can print our Virtu-Adoption Form and mail it back to us!

Please check back for weekly updates on our progress! If you’d like to receive an email update, please send your email address to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

*The Cattery’s overhead expenses include wages (4 part time employees, the shelter director position is unpaid), water, electricity, trash pick up, litter and shipment costs for the free food offered by Science Diet.

New Quarantine and Isolation cages!

This is the picture of what our new quarantine and isolation cages will look like! With the money we raised at the Meow Mixer, we will be able to buy two sets (the ones we’re getting actually have 12 cages)! These new cages will help us ensure that diseases are not passed between cats while they are going through the…ir 2 week quarantine period and so kitties in isolation can recover from any sicknesses they have without catching others! Right now we have dog crates and have to wrap towels around them to try to prevent kitties in kennels that are side by side from passing anything back and forth. Thank you for supporting The Cattery so we can continue to do good work and improve on our practices!

Let there be light!

We want to give a special thanks to Bill Thornton for running electricity to our quarantine and isolation buidlings!  Not only did he donate all of his time, he worked on getting a majority of the materials donated!  This saved us a ton of money and we couldn’t be happier with the results!  We love our volunteers!

Meow Mixer Success!

The Meow Mixer was a great success!  Even though we lowered ticket prices, and didn’t have as many auction items as in the past, we still raised over $8000 for the cats and kittens!  Part of the money will be spent on new cages for our isolation and quarantine areas, that will help keep any illnesses the kitties might have from spreading.
