Adoption Process and Policies

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat month!!

We have 3 specials going on this month:

Now, through the end of June, adoption fees will be waived for all of our adult cats.

All other age groups will have their adoption fees reduced to only $50!

Any black cat adopted will go home with a new comfy bed, bowls, some tasty treats and some toys, thanks to a generous supporter that donated these items!

We currently have 75+ wonderful cats and kittens looking for a good home. If you are looking for a new family member, we are here to help you pick a cat that will be a good fit.*  Adoption hours are currently at our shelter (8201 Weber) Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm.  We also do adoptions at Petsmart on SPID 7 days a week. Monday - Friday, Petsmart personnel will guide you through the beginning of the adoption process. After the application is approved, an appointment will be made to pick up your new pet and go over the remaining paperwork (usually on the same day)! Shelter staff will be on site Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm.

Please allow enough time for the adoption process - you want to be able to pick out your new friend and spend some time with her before you start the adoption process.  Adoption fees are $75 for one kitty or $125 for two.  All of our cats have been examined, spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated against Rabies and Distemper.  All cats have tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.  Cats have also been treated for earmites if necessary and fleas. The adoption fee also include a free adopter bag of Science Diet, a free exam and 10 day health certificate from Oso Creek and a gift of 30 days pet insurance from ShelterCare pet insurance.

Policies

Please make picking a cat a family event - we want everyone in the family to be happy with the decision so we can make the best match.  A counselor will then interview you to see what type of cat you are looking for and help you meet our residents.  Spend as much time as you like getting to know the cats!

Once you find your cat you will fill out an application.  If you rent, we will need a copy of your lease with pet requirements, your landlord’s phone number,  as well as a receipt for your paid pet deposit.  If this information can not be verified on the adoption day, we can make an appointment after the information is verified to pick up your cat.  We currently take cash, Visa and Mastercard for the adoption fee.  Sorry, checks are not accepted for adoption fees.

Please be sure to bring a pet carrier with you to take your cat home.  Cats are not allowed to leave the shelter unless in a pet carrier.  We have cardboard carriers for purchase for $10 and a variety of regular carries as well (prices vary).

The Cattery is fully sponsored by VCA Oso Creek Animal Hospital .  That means they are taking care of our kitties before and after adoption!!  When you adopt a cat or kitten from The Cattery, you will receive a Health Certificate from Oso Creek.  This certificate entitles you to a free examination (scheduled w/in 5 days of adoption) and 10 days of complimentary follow up care for the common issues shelter cats can have!  (The certificate outlines conditions that are covered.)

We love all of the kitties in our shelter and want them to live long, healthy lives with their new families.  Because of the dangers cats are exposed to outside (including being attacked by dogs, other wild animals, disease and parasite exposure, poisons, and people that are just cruel to animals, etc) we only adopt our cats to be house cats.  If you want a cat as an outdoor pet, despite the dangers, we suggest you try Animal Control (2626 Holly) or inquire about the adoption policies of the other local shelters (PeeWee’s, PALS, and the Humane Society).

We also ask that any current pets be up to date on vaccinations.  You can either bring vaccination records with you or we can check with your Veterinarian directly (keep in mind, most Veterinarians aren’t open on the weekend).  We require animals be current on vaccinations because we want the transition of your pet going home to be as healthy as possible for both your current pets and your new pet!
